Frequently Asked Questions
-
Can I apostille a copy of my document, or does it have to be the original?Generally, only original documents are eligible for apostille. If you get a copy notarized, it can also be apostilled, but the notarization must be original.
-
How are notarizations and apostilles related?A notarization verifies that the signer proved their identity and signed the paperwork. An apostille verifies that the notary is commissioned in California and that the notary performed the notarization in compliance with California law.

-
Can I apostille a document for someone else?Yes, you can act on behalf of someone else to get their document apostilled.

How long does it take to get an apostille through our service? As soon as we have your documents in my hands, We will have them apostilled within one business day. We also have a same-day apostille service available to certain locations.
-
Is there an expiration date for an apostille?Apostilles do not expire. Once issued, they remain valid for use in the designated foreign country. However, some countries want Apostilles issued within a certain time frame.

-
Do you provide translation services for documents in other languages?Yes, we can assist with translations.

-
Why do I need an apostille? An apostille is required when presenting California documents in a foreign country. Foreign countries do not know how certifications are done in California, so they need the apostille to let them know that it was done properly.
-
What are authentications, and how do I get one?Authentications are similar to apostilles as they are certificates for documents to use internationally. The difference is that authentications are for countries not part of the Hauge Convention. The process to get one is the same as acquiring an apostille, and we would be happy to assist you through the process.
-
Can you apostille federal documents in California?Federal documents are apostilled on the Federal level. We can assist with Federal Apostilles as well. Federal processing times take a longer than state processing. To get a faster California Apostille on a Federal document, it must be notarized first. Once notarized by a California notary, it can be Apostilled in California through the notarization. It is important to fist check if a state apostille would work for you, of if a federal one is needed.
-
What Is An Apostille? An Apostille authenticates a U.S. document, like a birth certificate, so that you may use it in another country. For example, a California birth certificate may not be accepted for use in a foreign country without an Apostille. The same applies to notarized documents, marriage/divorce certificates, death certificates, and many other U.S. documents. The Apostille certificate will outline the details of the authenticated document. It will have a red stamp, half of the stamp will be on the Apostille, and the other half will be on the document. Here you can see what an apostille looks like:
-
What countries can I use an apostille in?Apostilles can be used in the countries part of the 1961 Hauge Convention Treaty. For countries not part of the convention, authentications are used. Click here to see a list of all the countries.

How do I apostille my driver’s license or passport? While your physical driver's license or passport cannot be apostilled directly, you can photocopy it and get it notarized. The notarization would then be apostilled. For the notary to notarize it, you would also need to make a sworn statement referencing the photocopy.
